Someone(s) Is Trying to Steal My Identity

Last October, I received alerts on my credit monitoring services that an account had been opened in my name. 'It must be a mistake,' I thought, but just in case, I asked J if he knew anything about it. And as expected, he had no idea what I was talking about.

I examined the credit alert and saw that the account was for a credit card, so I looked up the credit card company online and called them. I didn't have an account number or anything like that so trying to get a representative on the line was a bit of a hassle, but eventually I got connected to the fraud department. I told them that I

The Best Literary Film Adaptation of the Past 50 Years

Over the past week, Literary Hub had a bracket-style vote for the best literary film adaptation of the last 50 years. The 64 choices were compiled from the editorial staff's personal favorites, then divided into four sub-genres: comedy, drama, action & thriller, and sci-fi, fantasy, & horror. After six rounds of voting and thousands of votes cast, the champion winner was crowned today.

You can see that the final four came down to  The Princess Bride, Apocalypse Now, The Silence of the Lambs, and  The LOTR: The Return of the King . All four are solid choices, IMHO. I wish Jurassic Park could have made it to the final four, but alas, it was competing with

Try Being Middle Management (Keep the Dot Green)

For today's website of the day, I present to you The Green Dot : a site that lets you experience the absolute pointlessness of modern middle management. In the middle of the screen is your employee, who inevitably becomes bored and starts slacking off. Your mission is to keep his productivity levels up; that is, keep the Slack dot green.

As you can see in the screenshot above, there is a "Vitality" bar at the top of the screen. It is what makes the Slack dot green, yellow, or red. The vitality level keeps decreasing as time goes by, and your doing certain tasks — as the manager — at the bottom half of the page will

A Diagram of the World Wide Web

As one commenter put it, "The most terrifying part isn't the shark. It's that load-bearing strut labeled 'Unpaid Open Source Developers.' Somewhere in Nebraska, a guy named Dave is maintaining a regex library he wrote in 2003. If Dave decides to go outside and touch grass for just one weekend, the V8 engine explodes, AWS melts, and we all go back to the Stone Age."

Artemis II Crew Has Computer Trouble (F*ck Microsoft!)

Did you hear? More than a half-century after NASA last ventured farther than the International Space Station, Artemis II is on its way toward the moon. If all goes according to plan, the four astronauts will test the spacecraft's life-support systems over a 10-day voyage that loops around Earth before slingshotting around the moon. They'll attempt to travel about 248,700 miles from Earth, surpassing Apollo 13's record of 248,655 miles, set in 1970.

While Wednesday's launch went off without a hitch, the crew did encounter some problems onboard the spacecraft. First, the toilet malfunctioned. The fan was reported to be jammed, which meant the astronauts could use the toilet for number two but not number one. Fortunately, mission
